This past weekend we hosted our annual in-town retreat, Ignite. I shared some of my thoughts prior to the event, but now I have the joy of looking back over a great time together.
I will take with me many memories, but in particular, I will remember…
The Joy of Partnership. We had an army of leaders partner together for Ignite. This weekend literally would not work without them. I could brag on so many individuals. Our ministry assistant, intern, and middle school director…our very own pampered chef, professional photographer, sound technician, and light board wizard…the band and teachers…and of course our wonderful host homes and small group leaders…they knocked it out of the park! They worked and led in ways I never could. They testified to the great and varied grace of our God. I was blessed to watch these people in action and to receive the benefit of their gifts.
We also partnered with our Global Impact Conference, which widened and deepened our vision for the weekend’s theme, Multiply: Disciple to Disciple. Our partnerships extended to local ministries too. We served at a local rescue mission, a couple retirement homes, a disabilities ministry, a food bank, and a nearby elementary school.
These links greatly strengthened the event. They provided an environment rich with life and diversity.
The Passion of Students. I love to watch students go one hundred percent at life and faith. Their passion inspires me and keeps me young(er). If we worship, hands fly and souls soar. If we jump on trampolines, they backflip. If we issue a challenge from scripture, they accept. If we have a lip sync contest, they put on a broadway musical. If we serve the poor, lonely and needy, they serve with spirit and joy. I think Jesus smiles at this kind of zest, and I think we would do well to learn from their example.
I am thankful for quite a number of other things too, but I will keep my thoughts brief. I will simply say thank you, Lord, for a wonderful weekend together.
