Quieting the Storms

by Derek Leave a Comment

We’ve spent a good part of the day checking weather reports, looking out the window, and wondering if a storm cell was nearby. As a dude, I never mind storms. In fact, I like them. As a dad, I find myself far more conscientious and careful. I make plans in my head and try to lead responsibly when I hear of a tornado watch in the area.

But my best efforts to protect my children only pale in comparison to our Heavenly Father’s perfect ability to protect his children.

If you’ve been caught in this recent wave of storms in the South, let it be an occasion to remember the One who can quiet every storm.

“He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed.” (Psalm 107:29 ESV)

“Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in you my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge, till the storms of destruction pass by.” (Psalm 57:1 ESV)

“And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.” (Matthew 8:26 ESV)
