What Is

by Derek 1 Comment

I came across this quote the other day:

“What is, is the great teacher.”

This thought is simple but potentially profound.

Every part of our everyday life can teach us. Every high and low. The chaos and the calm. Flat tires and traffic. Finances and rain. Fun and sorrow. Everything that is can teach us.

Everything can teach us because God reigns. He is sovereign. He is in control of every detail in our lives. And he loves us. Therefore, anything that gets to us has gotten to us in accordance with his loving plan for us.

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

We can then embrace what is. We do not need to cling desperately to what was. We do not need to worry about what could have been. We can simply start with what is. We can live in the now because we know God is working in the now. He is using it for our good, to teach us and develop us.

What is, is the great teacher because our loving God controls what is.
